The birth, rise, fall and rebirth of analog synthesizers. Recently I saw the documentary “I Dream Of Wires” (which borrows its name from a Gary Numan song). According to the film in the early 60’s there were the east coast synths built by Robert MOOG and the west coast synths developed by Don BUCHLA. A couple of years ago I attended MOOGFEST in Asheville, NC and saw a performance by Morton Subotnick, an experimental electronic music composer playing a modular BUCHLA synth on stage. It was a mind bending experience, all these raw analog sounds piercing everybody’s ears.
